2026 CWSS-SCM Annual Meeting
Dates: November 23–26, 2026
Location: Delta Hotels Saskatoon Downtown
Address: 405 20th Street East, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
The Local Area Committee (LAC) has developed an exciting program around this year’s theme, “Managing Multiple Herbicide-Resistant Weeds,” featuring a variety of topics related to weed science, invasive plants, and herbicide resistance across Canada. As always, the educational program includes graduate student presentations, plenary speakers, posters, and concurrent sessions.
Keynote Speakers
As for our keynote presentation, we are excited to announce that Dr. Franck E. Dayan from Colorado State University, will be presenting (remotely) on the topic “From Enzyme Targets to AI-Designed Herbicides: The Future of Herbicide Discovery.”
Franck’s research spans weed science, herbicide mode of action, resistance evolution, plant biochemistry, and functional genomics. His work focuses on understanding herbicide resistance and advancing new approaches to herbicide discovery, including AI, structure-based design, natural products, and novel modes of action. He has authored and co-authored several key reviews on the future of herbicide discovery.
We are also delighted to welcome back Eric Johnson as a plenary presenter. Eric is a retired weed scientist and agronomist whose career has had a lasting impact on Saskatchewan agriculture. Beginning with Saskatchewan Agriculture and later with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Research Farm at Scott, he worked closely with producers and conducted research in weed management, agronomy, and sustainable cropping systems. He later continued his research and mentorship at the University of Saskatchewan, co-authoring more than 140 publications. Eric’s contributions to Saskatchewan agriculture and weed science have been recognized with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists Distinguished Agrologist Award, CWSS-SCM Excellence in Weed Science and Fellow Awards, and the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Pulse Promoter Award.
New This Year
We are excited to introduce a special meeting, “Grower-Industry Connect: Precision Tool & Resistance Realities,” on Monday, November 23. This meeting will bring together growers, agronomists, researchers, and industry representatives to discuss emerging technologies and approaches to weed management. All members are welcome to attend and participate (additional fee applies).
Networking and Social Events
We have also planned plenty of opportunities to connect, catch up with friends and colleagues, and enjoy some time together. Join us for the Meet & Greet Reception on Monday evening, the dine around event on Tuesday evening, and the Awards Dinner & Presentations on Wednesday evening.
We look forward to welcoming you to Saskatoon for another great CWSS-SCM Annual Meeting!
