Philip Oegema
Phil Oegema is an organic farmer in St. Thomas Ontario. Him and his father grow corn, soybeans, wheat, spelt, and dry edible beans for the organic market. They started transitioning their farm to organic in 2013 after a long history of conventional crop farming. They are now fully certified on all of their 1100 acres. The change in farming practices has led to many challenges and many exciting innovations on their farm, including the use of high voltage electricity for late stage, mature weed control.
Phil is also very active in his local Soil and Crop association, and is a provincial director for the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association. He has an MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and has three very active high energy children ages 3, 6 and 8.
Phil Oegema est un fermier bio localisé à St. Thomas en Ontario. Il cultive, avec son père, du maïs, du soya, du blé, de l’épeautre et des haricots secs pour le marché biologique. Ils ont commencé leur transition vers l’agriculture biologique en 2013 après avoir longtemps cultivé de façon conventionnelle. Ils sont maintenant certifié bio sur l’ensemble de la ferme de 1100 acres. Phil est aussi très actif au sein de son association locale de Sols et Grandes cultures. Il est aussi le directeur provincial l’association pour l’Amélioration des Sols et des Grandes cultures de l’Ontario. Il a un MBA de l’université Drexel de Philadelphie et trois enfants très énergiques âgés de 3,6 et 8 ans.
