Approaches for analysis of non-normal data

When: Tuesday November 15, 2022 15:30 -17:00 (local Halifax time)

Analysis of non-normal data with limited sample sizes is a common problem encountered in the applied sciences. A variety of approaches have been developed, however, each has strengths and weaknesses depending on the dataset and research question. This often results in researchers asking if data transformations, non-parametric approaches or a generalized linear model is the best approach.

In this workshop we will cover some of these topics and methods for analyzing non-normal data. We will work through an example in SAS v9.4 and RStudio to provide you techniques and tactics you can apply in your research.

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Apply several approaches to analyzing non-normal data
  2. Understand common pitfalls made in the analysis of non-normal data
  3. Choose which approach is best for a given scenario
  4. Implement data transformations, non-parametric tests and generalized linear models in SAS and RStudio
